Bernie Sanders Town Hall

On April 12th 2016 a group of five DRIVE students attended a rally for presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders. Joining a group of over 6400 at the MCC Ice Complex students heard Sanders speak for about an hour on his political ideologies. Prefacing the event we engaged in conversation on our political system and students were asked to prepare questions. When asked why they were attending this field trip students expressed interest in seeing the excitement built around the presidential election and having the unique opportunity to hear a candidate speak in person.  As a group we found it important to have personal choice and be represented within our government, particularly within the disability services demographic. To conclude the experience students were asked to write a single page report on their day and experience at the Bernie Sanders rally, which provided great insight in their personal experience.

Women’s Basketball Game

The D.R.I.V.E. students are back into the swing of D.R.I.V.E. classes and college classes with their peers and peer mentors. The D.R.I.V.E. Program has 32 peer mentors who have the responsibility of being mentors that support our students as they assimilate into the college environment on a day to day basis and facilitate campus integration through night and weekend activities. In between classes, our students keep a look out throughout the campus for extra night and weekend activities that they would be able to attend along side Keuka College students. Some of our students were able to attend the Keuka Women’s Basketball Game on Saturday, February 21st. at Keuka College. Students and peer mentors enjoyed giving high fives to the basketball team during warm ups, cheering the team on throughout the game with their handmade signs, and even being recognized in between quarters. A couple of students on the Keuka Women’s Basketball Team are part of The D.R.I.V.E. Program as peer mentors. It was a great time had by all while being immersed in the campus activities with peers.
